Spartans Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener at Bloomsburg

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell behind early on the way to a 5-1 setback at Bloomsburg University in the season opener for both teams.

STAC yielded the first goal of the new campaign just over a minute after the opening whistle, as Anthony Cerda's header at the 1:19 mark found its way past Spartan goalkeeper Jack Nicholson. The Huskies added two more markers late in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Luis Morales gave STAC hope with his first collegiate goal at the 57:41 mark to trim the gap to 3-1, but the hosts would answer just over five minutes later against Sean Connolly, who assumed the goaile duties for the Spartans in the second half, and seal the deal with another late talle.

Nicholson took the loss in his Spartans debut, while Connolloy recorded four saves in the relief effort. The men's squad travels to Lock Haven for a road match on Saturday, September 5th, before hosting East Stroudsburg University in the Home Opener on Tuesday, September 8th, at Spartan Field in a 2:00 pm kickoff.
