Late Flurry Costs Men's Soccer in 4-0 Defeat at East Stroudsburg

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 4-0 defeat in a non-conference match at East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday. The Spartans dropped to 0-3 on the season while ESU remained perfect at 3-0.

Originally scheduled to be played at Spartan Field, the road contest started out as an even one for STAC, with East Stroudsburg holding a 5-4 shots advantage after a tightly-played, scoreless first half.

After the break, the Warriors carried the advantage before finally breaking through on a Christian Bukowski goal at 58:57. An own goal found its way past STAC keeper Aiden Tansey at 69:23, and scoring chances were hard to come by thereafter for the Spartans as the hosts added a pair of insurance goals in the final 10 minutes of play.

Tansey made six saves in absorbing his first loss of the season (0-1), while Will Borema earned the shutout for ESU. STAC was outshot by a decisive 11-1 margin in the second half, for a 16-5 total on the afternoon.

The Spartans' Home Opener is now scheduled for this Saturday, September 12, when the University of New Haven visits Spartan Field for a non-conference tilt starting at 2:00 pm.
