Slow Start Costs Spartans in 4-2 Loss at Georgian Court

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rallied but fell short in a 4-2 setback in a non-conference contest at Georgian Court University. Luis Morales and Yohan Loyer scored for the Spartans, who fell to 3-8-1 on the season while GCU improved to 5-4-2.

Less than six minutes into play the Spartans found themselves in a 1-0 hole when Ricardo Vasconses' diving header found the back of the STAC net at 5:48. Leading scorer Michael Clarke added the next two talliies - his 13th and 14th of the season - at 22:19 and 26:36 open a three-goal gap.

Morales turned the tide for the Spartans at 28:04, converting a rebound to trim the gap to 3-1, which held through the halftime break. Loyer's one-timer off a cross from Chris Estevez brought the visitors to within a goal a the 55:31 mark, putting STAC within striking distance. Clarke would end the rally at 72:48, netting his third goal of the day to provide the final margin of victory.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, October 16, traveling to face Molloy College in an East Coast Conference battle starting at 7:00 pm. They return home on Wednesday, October 21, to host the University of Bridgeport in another ECC tilt.
