Spartans Finish Strong but Fall Short in 3-2 Loss at Molloy

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team tried to erase an early deficit but fell short in a 3-2 East Coast Conference setback at Molloy College. Chris Estevez and Luis Morales scored for the Spartans, who are now 3-9-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the ECC, while Molloy improves to 9-3, 4-2.

Repeating a recent trend, the Spartans found themselves at an early disadvantage when Mosiah Whyte beat STAC keeper Sean Connolloy at 9:08 to put the Lions on top. Whyte would add the night's second goal at 32:13, coming in alone to beat a helpless Connolly. STAC would battle back in the waning seconds of the first half, with Yohan Loyer finding Estevez at 44:46 to cut the deficit in half.

Lucas Munoz helped Molloy regain that two-goal cushion at 70:36, but the Spartans drew close again when Morales hit the mark at 79:57 to make the score 3-2. Just minutes later, STAC's comeback would take a serious blow as a red card forced the Spartans to play a man down for the final seven minutes, helping Molloy secure the win. Connolly made eight saves overall as the Lions held a slim 18-17 edge in shots.

The Spartans return home on Wednesday, October 21, hosting the University of Bridgeport at Spartan Field. The game is the back end of a double-header, with the women's teams starting at 1:00 pm followed immediately by the men's game.
