Men's Soccer Falls at NYIT in Double OT, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rallied to tie before falling to New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference contest 2-1, in double overtime. Luis Morales netted the lone goal for the Spartans, who dropped to 4-11-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the ECC, while NYIT improved to 10-5-1, 6-3.

NYIT found the net first in a tough defensive first half, scoring at the 24:18 mark to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold up through halftime, but Morales changed that quickly after the break, scoring his fifth goal of the season at 50:27. While scoring chances remained hard to come by, the Spartans shut down Tech in the second half, outshooting the Bears by a 5-0 margin.

Still, regulation would end scoreless and NYIT captured the momentum in the extra time. Ten minutes went by in the first OT, but the hosts wasted little time ending the affair in the second extra session, scoring just under a minute into the period.

Tech recorded all three shots in overtime, though the Spartans held a narrow 10-9 edge in shots in tough conditions. Jack Nicholson took the hard-luck loss in the STAC net.

The Spartans will conclude the 2015 season on Saturday, October 31, hosting LIU Post in an East Coast Conference tilt at Spartan Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm, as the back end of a double-header which will see the women's teams square off at noon.
