Corbi's Second-Half Tally Lifts Men's Soccer to First Win of Season

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rode a Michael Corbi goal and Sean Connolly's shutout goalkeeping to a 1-0 victory in a non-conference tilt at the University of New Haven. The Spartans earned their first win of the season, improving to 1-3 while UNH suffered its first setback to drop to 3-1.

STAC carried much of the play in the first half, outshooting the Chargers by a 10-4 count, but the teams took a scoreless deadlock to halftime. Corbi wasted little time breaking the seal in the second half, scoring his first goal of the season at 47:49 to give the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish.

Connolly did the rest as UNH pressed for the equalizer, but the netminder's five saves was enough to earn the clean sheet. New Haven closed the shots gap though STAC still enjoyed a 13-12 edge overall.

Due to work at Spartan Field, the men's soccer team is now in the midst of playing its first six games of the season on the road. The Spartans travel to face Holy Family on Tuesday, September 15 and open their East Coast Conferene slate at Dowling on September 19. Their Home Opener will be on Friday, September 27th against Daemen in another ECC contest.
