Spartans Take Down Felician for 2-1 Men's Soccer Triumph

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over Felician College in a non-conference game at Spartan Field. Mike Wagner and Ivan Gomez netted the goals for the Spartans, who improved to 4-10-1 on the season while Felician fell to 2-14.

STAC applied some early pressure and Michael Wagner converted his first goal of the season on an assist from Gomez at 19:30 to put the hosts on top. The Spartans enjoyed a 10-5 shots edge but that would be the only marker in the first half.

That goal would stand until Gomez put his team up a pair with his fourth goal of the season, coming with just 17 minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Jack Nicholson was deprived of a shutout when a penalty kick goal at 87:57 spoiled the clean sheet and brought the Golden Falcons to within 2-1. That was as close as they would get, as STAC boasted a 24-12 shots advantage on the afternoon in the win, with Nicholson earning his second victory of the season.

The Spartans have just two games remaining in the season, traveling to NYIT on Wednesday, October 28, before wrapping up the campaign against LIU Post on Saturday, October 31 at Spartan Field. Both of those games are East Coast Conference contests.
