Late Goals Send STAC Soccer to 4-2 Defeat at Assumption

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 4-2 defeat in a non-conference contest at Assumption College. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season as they stand at 3-1 overall, while Assumption captured its first victory to improve to 1-2.

Assumption got on the board midway through the first half when Chase Gurcan's header hit the mark at 22:38, but Michael Sulfita responded with one of his own from Alejandro Coyt-Orozco at 30:05 to tie the score going into halftime.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Jonathan Garces gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead, which held up until Ethan Morrow's penalty kick at 67:31 knotted the score at 2-2. Simon Tricka broke the deadlock for the Greyhounds at 76:51, and Gurcan's second of the day was the insurance tally at 79:07 to close out the scoring.

Jack Nicholson made a pair of saves in taking his first loss of the season in the Spartan net, and STAC outshot the hosts on the afternoon by a 20-16 margin.

The Spartans will play their next five straight - three on the road - against East Coast Conference competition beginning at Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, September 16. They return to Spartan Field to host the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, September 28.
