Defensive Struggle Ends with Men's Soccer's 0-0 Tie at Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 overtime tie in an East Coast Conference contest at Queens College. The Spartans now stand at 5-1-1 on the season and are in first place in the conference with a 2-0-1 league mark, while Queens is 3-2-3, 0-1-1. STAC wrapped up its string of five straight on the road with an impressive 3-1-1 record.

Defense ruled the day in Flushing, as both teams struggled to find opportunities, with Queens holding a 5-1 advantage in shots through the first half. STAC created more opportunities as each team accounted for seven shots in the second half but goalkeepers Jack Nicholson of STAC and James Brostowski of Queens kept the game scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation.

Neither team succeeded in hitting the net through 20 minutes of overteam, with both settling for the hard-fought tie. Nicholson was credited with two saves on the day while Brostowski made six saves, though the Knights had a narrow 15-12 edge in shots overall.

The Spartans will now try to hold the fort at home, with their next four straight and six of seven at Spartan Field. That string starts with an ECC tilt against the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday at 3:00 pm, before Mercy College pays a visit on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
