STAC Men's Soccer Drops Conference Showdown with Molloy, 3-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 3-0 setback in an East Coast Conference battle at Spartan Field. The showdown for first place in the conference standings saw the #8 ranked Spartans fall to 7-2-2 overall, 3-1-2 in the ECC, with Molloy improving to 7-2, 4-0.

High tempo was the story early, as the Molloy had two golden scoring chances cleared off the line for defensive saves, while the Spartans saw Chris Estevez ring a shot off the crossbar as the contest remained scoreless.

Molloy finally found the net at 37:36 when Anthony Cestaro sent a nice touch to Adam Carnwath who just beat a diving Jack Nicoloson in the STAC net to give the visitors a 1-0 halftime edge. Kyle Poetzsch gave the Lions a 2-0 edge at 57:52 with a spectacular burst down the right side, culminating in a perfect shot off the far post and in. Mosiah Whyte added a big insurance goal at 65:34 as the visitors closed out the scoring.

Raul Bonilla made six saves in the Molloy net while Nicholson turned aside three for the Spartans, as each squad recorded 13 shots on the afternoon.

The Spartans resume their quest for an ECC Playoff berth with a trip to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, October 12 before returning to Spartan Field to host St. Anselm on Sunday, October 16.
