First Half Goals Send Men's Soccer to 3-1 Defeat at NYIT

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 3-1 defeat in an East Coast Conference battle at NYIT. With the loss, the Spartans drop to 5-6-1 on the season and 3-3-0 in ECC play, while Tech improved to 7-6-1, 4-2.

A tightly played first half remained scorless with under two minutes remaining, when the host Bears struck for a quick pair. A corner kick set the stage for Alejandro Quiroga's goal at 43:48. Only 26 seconds later, they doubled that lead when Martin Sundell's feed sent Simon-Peter Omooba in alone on STAC netminder Jack Nicholson, and the finish at 44:14 gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break.

St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board quickly in the second half, when George Yusuff's shot was put in on the rebound by Luis Morales for his 5th goal of the season, making the score 2-1 at 46:50. Just past the midway point of the half, NYIT regained their insurance goal when a failed clear led to Dan Lembo's unassisted marker at 68:25, which would close out the scoring. The Bears outshot STAC by a 13-9 margin on the day, and also enjoyed a 6-2 gap in corner kicks.

The Spartans will play their next three in a row at home, starting on Wednesday, October 18 when Molloy visits Spartan Field for a 2:30 pm kickoff. LIU Post will be the opponent on Saturday, October 21 at 3:00 as the back end of a double-header after the women's teams play, and Millersville is the foe for the home finale on Tuesday, October 24, at 3:00 pm.
