Men's Soccer Season Wraps Up with 1-0 Setback at Mercy

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team ended the 2017 season with a 1-0 East Coast Conference loss at Mercy College. The Spartans conclude the 2017 season with a record of 5-9-1 overall and 3-6 in conference play, with Mercy improving to 12-6, 6-2 as they prepare for this week's confernce tournament.

Mercy struck quickly off a corner kick, when Lucca Lacreda hit the top corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season at the 10:47 mark. The teams battled evenly from there, with STAC trailing in shots by a narrow 5-4 margin entering halftime. Mercy applied the pressure with eight of the 10 shots taken in the second half, though neither team was successful in adding to the goal tally.

Jack Nicholson made four saves in absorbing the loss for the Spartans, while Kwantarian Van der Lara turned aside three shots to earn the shutout for the Mavericks.
