Adjei's Late Goal Lifts Men's Soccer to 2-2 Draw with Lock Haven

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team extended its home unbeaten streak to three games on the strength of a 2-2 non-conference tie against Lock Haven University at Spartan Field. The Spartans are now 2-0-1 in their last three games, all at home, and stand at 3-2-1 on the season with Lock Haven now at 4-1-2.

Just under 20 minutes into the game, LHU's Tyler Shumaker was turned aside on a beautiful diving save by Spartan netminder Jack Nicholson, but off the rebound, Shane Colgrove put on a nice dribbling exhibition before feeding Beckham Sibinski for the finish in close to make the score 1-0 at 18:53. STAC wasted little time in providing an answer, as Nazariy Myniv converted a turnover, feeding Luis Morales for a perfect shot to tie the score at 20:41.

With time winding down in the first half, the visitors regained the advantage, as Sibiski cranked a shot from the top of the box into the top corner past a diving Nicholson at 38:10, providing the Eagles a 2-1 lead at the half.

Less than four minutes remained in the second half when a long ball into the Lock Haven box wasn't handled cleanly, and Clifford Adjei took full advantage. Adjei's blast from 25 yards out rocketed off the underside of the crossbar and into the net, giving the Spartans their second late marker in as many games. That score would hold through the remainder of regulation and 20 scoreless minutes of overtime, with each team settling for a hard-earned tie. STAC held a narrow 14-12 edge in shots in the evenly-played game.

The Spartans travel to the University of the District of Columbia for an East Coast Conference match-up on Saturday, September 23, before returning to Sparkill for the next three straight. That string starts on Tuesday, September 26, when St. Thomas Aquians hosts Goldey Beacom for a 4:00 pm start.
