Spartans Drop 4-0 Home Decision to Goldey-Beacom

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team yielded a trio of second-half goals and fell to a 4-0 setback at the hands of Goldey-Beacom College at Spartan Field. The loss was the Spartans' first at home this season as they fell to 3-4-1 overall, with Goldey-Beacom improving to 7-3-0.

With neither team having hit the board in an evenly-played first half, GBC's Chahin Aghrim made a nice run down the left side before placing a perfect shot past STAC netminder Jack Nicholson at 36:15 to give the visitors the lead.

STAC's best chance of the day came early in the second half, when Naziryi Myniv's shot from inside the box seemed destined to hit the net only to be turned aside at the last instant on a splendid diving save by Lightning goalkeeper Suhail Busmilla. Shortly thereafter, Alejandro Valera converted on a free kick from 18 yards out to make the score 2-0 at 59:21.

Levi Maruca was pulled down in the area and converted his penalty kick at 65:12, and Mateus Silvestre scored at 67:23 to close out the scoring for Goldey Beacom. The visitors had a 16-6 shots advantage, with Nicholson, Steven Cedeno and Cameron Turner combining for five saves in the Spartans net.

St. Thomas Aquinas returns to action on Saturday, September 30, to host the University of Bridgeport in a 2:30 pm start as the back end of a double-header with the women's teams starting the action at 12:00 noon.
