Second Half Flurry Lifts Men's Soccer to 3-0 Victory over Bridgeport

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference game at Spartan Field. The Spartans are now 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in ECC competition, with Bridgeport dropping to 2-5-1, 1-2-1.

An evenly-played first half resulted in a scoreless tie through 45 minutes, but STAC needed little time after the break to get on the board. Luis Morales converted a penalty kick at 48:40 to give the Spartans the lead, and Nazariy Miniv doubled the lead at 54:49, finishing a nice feed from Alejandro Coyt-Orozco.

A corner kick by Coyt-Orozco resulted in his second assist of the game, with Cameron Pashley's header at 61:14 providing the final tally. Jack Nicholson made a couple of stellar saves in registering the shutout for STAC, as he stopped five Bridgeport shots overall. Despite the decisive final score, the Spartans were actually outshot by a 10-9 margin for the game.

The Spartans, who are now 3-1-1 in the last five home games, return to Spartan Field for another ECC showdown, hosting Queens College on Wednesday, October 4, with a 3:00 pm start. Five of STAC's eight October contests are to be held on their home turf.
