STAC Rallies to Grab 3-2 Men's Soccer Win over Daemen

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 East Coast Conference victory over Daemen College at Spartan Field. Stavros Strati scored the deciding goal in the final minute to cap a wild scramble, with the Spartans improving to 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECC, with Daemen falling to 2-4-0, 0-1-0.

STAC got off to an inauspicious start as goalkeeper Jack Nicholson lost the handle in front and Finn Kreuger tapped the ball into the open net after just 38 seconds of play to put Daemen in a 1-0 lead. The Spartans held a narrow lead in shots for the rest of the half but it was the Wildcats who hit the net again, as Alex Reid converted a nice feed from Kreuger at 41:07, giving the visitors a 2-0 halftime lead.

After the break, the Spartans got off to an inspired start, firing a barrage of shots at the Daemen net. With the visitors on their heels, STAC finally broke through on George Yusuff's goal at 70:48 off a touch from Luis Morales at 70:48. With the momentum firmly on thier side, the Spartans tied the contest when Paul Prenaj sent a perfect cross to Yusuff, who's header at 79:05 made the score 2-2.

With time winding down toward overtime, the hosts continued to apply the pressure. Yusuff was in the mix again, as his battle with goalkeeper Jarrett Lecceadone resulted in a loose ball, which Stavros put home for the deciding tally with just 55 seconds remaining. St. Thomas Aquinas outshot Daemen by an 18-10 margin for the game, with Nicholson recording four saves.

The Spartans now have two straight home wins under their belts and they look to make it three in a row when Lock Haven University visits Spartan Field for a tilt this Tuesday, with kickoff set for 3:00 pm.
