The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team was eliminated by top seeded Mercy College, 5-2, in the semi-final of the East Coast Conference Tournament. The fourth-seeded Spartans wrapped up the season at 10-6-1, their highest win total since the 2011 season. Mercy, ranked #9 in the nation, improved to 12-2-1 and advanced to host Saturday's championship final against LIU Post, which survived via a 1-0 penalty kick shootout win over Queens in the day's other semi.

Mercy got on the board first as Maximilliano Rebolledo-Camus set the tone early for a memorable day. Rebolledo-Camus got the Mavericks on the board at 18:16, poking an unassisted tally into the corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season. Just over 10 minutes later, he recorded his second of the day off a cross from Manuel Achondo at 28:31, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead through halftime.

STAC showed signs of life quickly in the second half as Luis Morales converted a penalty kick to cut the margin in half just 25 seconds into second half play. Moments later, the Spartans deadlocked the game when Morales' free kick was headed home by Alejandro Camejo, tying the score at 2-2 at 52:02. That momentum was short-lived, however, as Manuel Achondo hit the net off a free kick at 57:08 to give Mercy a lead it would not relinquish.

From there, Rebolledo-Camus put the game away with his third and fourth goals of the game, scoring at 67:17 and 84:05 to give the Mavericks insurance en route to the win. STAC was outshot by a 20-10 total for the day, with Spartans goalkeeper Jack Nicholson and Mercy's Jordan Williams registering four saves each.
