Unbeaten Streak at 4 as Spartans Battle to 1-1 Draw at Millersville

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 deadlock in a non-conference contest at Millersville University. After winning their previous three straight, the Spartans are now undefeated in four games in a row, standing at 3-1-1 on the season, with Millersville now at 3-1-2.

St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board with its first shot of the evening, as Federico Scaglioni converted for his first of the season at the 8:17 mark on an assist from Alejandro Camejo. That lead held up through intermission with the hosts holding a narrow 5-2 edge in shots in the tight defensive affair.

Millersville pressed for the equalizer and finally broke through on McClain Smith's tally at 69:19, on assists from Kyle Finsterbush and Spencer Shortt at 69:19. That was enough to send the game to extra time and, while Millersville took six of the seven shots recorded in the 20 minutes of extra play, STAC goalkeeper and East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Jack Nicholson held firm, making six saves overall as his side was outshot by a 17-6 game total.

The Spartans look to carry their momentum into their return to Spartan Field on Saturday, September 15, opening their ECC schedule against Mercy College. Game time is scheduled for approximately 1:00 pm, as the back end of a double-header starting with the women's teams squaring off at 11:00 am.
