Men's Soccer Battles for 2-0 Road Victory over New Haven

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team won its third straight in a non-conference 2-0 decision at the University of New Haven. The Spartans now stand at 3-1 on the season, with New Haven remaining winless at 0-4.

Scoring chances were few in an evenly-played first half, but despite the Chargers taking all four corner kicks of the session, it was STAC getting on the board just before intermission. With just under two minutes left, Lachlan Wilkinson's shot hit the post but Brad Neal was there to convert the rebound at 43:10, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead they would carry through the break.

Goalkeeper Jack Nicholson preserved the clean sheet and his teammates added a big insurance goal at 70:58. Federico Scaglioni took a free kick from just outside the penalty area and found George Yusuff, who found the net for his second of the season. Nicholson did the rest in improving to 3-0 on the season, making five saves as STAC recorded a 17-12 advantage in shots for the night.

The Spartans will play another road game under the lights, traveling to Millersville University for a 6:00 pm start on Wednesday, September 12. They then return home to kick off their East Coast Conference schedule against Mercy College on Saturday, September 15, with start time slated for 1:00 pm as the back end of a double-header starting with the women's teams squaring off at 11:00 am.
