STAC Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to SNHU, 6-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 6-1 setback at Southern New Hampshire University. The contest was the first of the season for both teams.

SNHU carried the play from the early going, breaking on top at the 17:14 mark when Jonathan Cruickshank took a through ball and sent a shot past Spartan goalkeeper Cameron Turner. Just 59 seconds later, STAC received a break, as a corner kick was put into the Penmen net for an own goal, deadlocking the score at 1-1. Four minutes later, Tom Marriott scored his first of two on the day, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead through halftime, with a 10-2 lead in shots.

Southern New Hampshire needed just 18 seconds after the break to open a two-goal margin on the first of two straight by Alex Satrustegui, blowing the game open en route to a convencing decision. The Penmen finished the afternoon with a 23-6 shots advantage, with Turner turning aside six shots in the Spartans net.

The Spartans play their next two straight at home, hosting St. Michael's at noon on Sunday, September 2, before Holy Family University pays a visit in a 2:00 pm kickoff on Tuesday, September 4.
