Late Goals Cost STAC Men's Soccer in 3-2 Setback at West Chester

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 decision in a non-conference battle at West Chester University. The Spartans slipped to 10-4-1 on the season, with WCU improving to 11-2-3.

STAC scored the lone first half marker when Luis Morales put in Alejandro Camejo's pass at 17:10 for his fourth of the season, though the Spartans were outshot by a narrow 6-3 gap through 45 minutes of play. West Chester tied the score at 53:49 on Stephen Thompson's third of the season, setting the stage for a wild finish.

Morales netted his second of the contest at 78:58, giving the visitors a lead with just over 11 minutes to play. That goal appeared to be the difference maker, but the Golden Rams struck late, with Shane Harty converting a header with just 3:01 left to deadlock the affair at 2-2. With the contest apparently headed for overtime, West Chester stunned the Spartans as Daniel Grindrod's long free kick into the box was put home by Jason Pixley with just 48 seconds left, sending the hosts to victory.

The Spartans close out the regular season with an East Coast Conference tilt at Daemen College at 1:00 on Saturday, October 27. With a conference tournament berth already in hand, that contest could have major implications on playoff pairings as St. Thomas Aquinas could still host a first round game, pending that and other results.
