STAC Men's Soccer Ranked 7th in Latest NCAA, United Soccer Coaches Regional Polls

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team has been ranked #7 in the latest NCAA Division II and United Soccer Coaches East Region Polls.

The Spartans went 1-1 on the week, first falling at the #5 ranked LIU Post Pioneers 4-1 last Wednesday, then picking up a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday. In that match, goalie Jack Nicholson picked up his first career goal in the waning moments of regulation, as Nicholson moved up the field as an extra attacker and headed a long throw by Brad Neal past the UDC keeper to square things at one goal apiece and force overtime. In the extra session, George Yusuff tallied to send the Spartans to their tenth victory of the season.

On the offensive side of the ball, three Spartans figure in double digits in scoring as George Yusuff (4 goals/4 assists) and Luis Morales (5 goals/2 assists) each have 12 points and Lachlan Wilkinson follows close behind with 10 points (4 goals/2 assists).

Goalkeeper Jack Nicholson was honored for the third time this season as East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, and he retains the conference lead in goals against average at an impressive 0.98.

With their 6-2 record in ECC competition, the Spartans have clinched a spot in the upcoming East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, and are currently in a three-way tie with Mercy and LIU Post for the top spot in the standings. STAC returns to action in their regular season finale, at Daemen College, on Saturday, October 27.
