First Half Goals Lift Spartans to 4-1 Victory Over Holy Family

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Holy Family University in a non-conference contest at Spartan Field. With their second straight win, the Spartans improve to 2-1 on the season, with HFU slipping to 0-3.

STAC unleashed a barrage of first half shots to the tune of a 13-2 advantage, but were unable to break through until Lachlan Wilkinson's first goal as a Spartan, on an assist from goalkeeper Jack Nicholson, at 25:41, setting off a string of three goals in just under five minutes. Just over two minutes later, George Yusuff made the score 2-0 with an unassisted tally, and at 30:25 Luis Morales converted his second of the season from Stavros Strati, and the hosts cruised into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Jose Robles added an insurance tally from Alejandro Carnejo at 70:56, with the visitors snapping the shutout bid with just under five minutes remaining in the affair. STAC enjoyed a 17-6 overall advantage in shots, while Nicholson improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory in net.

After opening the campaign with three games in a seven-day span, the Spartans are now off until Saturday, September 8, when they travel to the University of New Haven for a 7:00 pm kickoff. They then travel to Millersville University on Wednesday, September 12, before returning home to open their East Coast Conference schedule against Mercy College on Saturday, September 15.
