Spartans Fall to 1-0 Setback at Mercy on Late Goal

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer dropped a tough 1-0 East Coast Conference game at Mercy College. The Spartans are now 0-9-1 overall on the season and 0-5-0 in the ECC, with Mercy now standing at 11-1-1, 4-1.

Despite the disparity in records, the Spartans played an even first half with Mercy, being outshot but just a 5-3 margin as the teams remained scoreless at the break. The Mavericks took control in the second half, registering nine corner kicks, which proved to be STAC's downfall. Gaston Rozenblum's corner was headed in by Manuel Achondo at 74:23 and the visitors never threatened, being held shotless in the second half as the hosts held a 12-1 final edge in corners.

The Spartans play their final road game of the season on Saturday, October 19, traveling to face the University of the District of Columbia in an ECC battle before returning to Spartan Field for the final five games. That streak starts with a non-conference tilt with Bloomfield College on Tuesday, October 22, with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
