Second Half Goals Cost Spartans in 2-0 Defeat at NYIT

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 2-0 defeat in an East Coast Conference game at NYIT. The loss was the fourth straight for the Spartans, who now stand at 0-7-1 on the season with an 0-3 mark in conference, while NYIT improved to 4-6, 3-0 with the win.

STAC's defense held firm in the first half, allowing just five shots by the Bears but the recent offensive woes continued as the teams were scoreless through 45 minutes. Bernd Schluter broke the deadlock just 46 seconds into the second half and added another on a penalty kick at 62:17 and that was more then enough as the Spartans recorded just seven shots in being blanked for the fourth consecutive game. NYIT held a 14-7 advantage in shots on the afternoon, with Cameron Turner making six saves in the STAC net.

The Spartans have a week off before returning to ECC play, hosting Molloy College on Saturday, October 12, in a 1:00 pm start at Spartan Field. They will then hit the road for two straight before finishing the season with five straight at home.
