STAC Comes Up Short in 2-0 Loss to Bridgeport in Men's Soccer ECC Opener

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to a 2-0 defeat against the University of Bridgeport in their East Coast Conference opener at Spartan Field. The Spartans slipped to 0-4-1, 0-1 on the season, with Bridgeport improving to 3-3-0, 1-0.

Bridgeport provided all of the scoring in the first half, starting with Oscar Facey's tally at 17:37. Leandro Avila's attempt was stifled on an outstanding save by Spartan keeper Cameron Turner, but Facey was on the spot for the rebound to record his second of the season. Avila was in the mix again on the Purple Knights' second marker at 34:29, taking a long feed from Jesse Clark to add the insurance goal.

STAC's offense was unable to find the answer to Bridgeport netminder Carlos Tofern, who made six saves to notch the shutout, while Turner also made six for the hosts.

The Spartans return to ECC action with a trip to face Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, October 28 before returning to Spartan Field to host Millersville for a non-conference battle on Wednesday, October 2.
