The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team captured its third straight win, a 3-0 decision in an East Coast Conference contest against Queens College at Spartan Field. The Spartan improve to 3-9-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the ECC, with Queens sliding to 5-5-3, 2-2-1.
St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board quickly when Amann Aslam's shot from in close was turned aside by Queens goalkeeper Marek Strelczyk, only to find Jorge Mazariego alone to put home the rebound at 5:38. Each team had five shots in the evenly-played first half which ended with the hosts protecting that one goal lead.
Queens brought pressure early in the second half but STAC's defense stood tall throughout, maintaining the league until Sergio Martin's touch found Mazariego all alone on goal. The freshman deftly moved around a charging Strelczyk and tapped the insurance tally into the open net at 72:49. The remained frustrated by the Spartans' backline effort, opening the door for a penalty kick which was converted by Clifford Adjei at 81:18 to round out the scoring. Cameron Turner remained strong in net, making five saves to earn his third clean sheet in as many games.
The Spartans play their final three games at home, starting on Tuesday, October 29 when West Chester University visits Spartan Field for a 2:00 pm start. Nyack then pays a call for a 1:00 kickoff on Senior Day, Saturday, November 2, before Daemen College wraps up the season on Saturday, November 9.
