Bloomsburg Huskies Slip Past STAC Men's Soccer 3-2

Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team came out on the losing side of a clash with Bloomsburg University on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill, falling 3-2 to the Huskies.

Though the Cadets posted 13 shots (7 on goal), a late Bloomsburg goal in the second half helped the visitors power past the Spartans, snapping the home team's two-game winning streak.

The game was filled with back-and-forth action between the two sides, with Bloomsburg taking the early 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex Wilsterman 17 minutes into the opening stanza. However, just about a minute later, St. Thomas Aquinas would even the score on a Cole Allen tally off of a pass from Jorge Umana.

Two minutes later, the visiting Huskies would strike for their second of the match, Stephen Hollis would score to make it 2-1. The slim one goal margin would hold, as the teams would retreat to their respective sidelines for the halftime break.

In the second half, the teams would battle for possession of the ball, and it would take until the final 10 minutes of the match for another goal to be scored. Collis Heleine would put a shot behind Spartan Keeper Asier Vegas to give Bloomsburg a commanding 3-1 lead. About a minute later, what was a comfortable two-goal lead by the visitors was quickly reduced to a one-goal advantage, as Jorge Umana would be awarded a penalty kick on a defensive handball inside of the penalty area. Umana would convert the shot past Huskies goalie Nathan Slotnick (W, 3-0) for his team-leading second goal of the season to make it 3-2.

STAC would have a few chances to tie things up in the final minutes of action, but were unable to string anything together before the clock wound down to triple zeros.
