Bolivar Sanchez's Hat Trick Propels Men's Soccer to 3-1 Victory over Queens

Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team claimed a key East Coast Conference victory with a 3-1 triumph over Queens College on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill.

The Spartans (5-2-1, 2-1 ECC) were up for the challenge against a Queens (5-3-0, 1-2 ECC) squad that was fresh off of wins over the College of Staten Island and Chestnut Hill College. Anthony Bolivar Sanchez recorded a hat trick, while Dan Dougill, Jorge Umana and Cole Allen all pick up assists in the match.

In between the pipes, Asier Vegas (W, 4-1) came away with four stops, to help the Spartans pick up the win.

STAC outshot Queens, 15-11 in the contest, while both teams took four corners apiece. 

STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

  • Bolivar Sanchez's three goals now gives him a team-leading five on the season.
  • Umana's assist in the match is his fifth of the year.
  • Vegas now holds a 1.05 goals against average and a .792 save percentage in five games played.
  • The Spartans have recorded double-digit shots in all eight of their matches in 2021.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the 11th minute, Anthony Bolivar Sanchez took a through ball from Dan Dougill up the middle and scored to make it 1-0.
  • Bolivar Sanchez's second goal came via a header on a pass in the box by Jorge Umana in the 42nd minute to double STAC's lead at 2-0.
  • Queens College would get on the scoreboard in the 56th minute on a strike by Thomas Esperoe with the assist being credited to Angel Leon Zavala, cutting the lead to 2-1.
  • Cole Allen would send a through ball up the near sideline to the foot of Bolivar Sanchez who would connect on the hat trick goal in the 68th minute to the Spartans a commanding 3-1 advantage.
