STAC Men's Soccer Shutout at College of Staten Island, 2-0

Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team fell on the road to the College of Staten Island in a tightly-contested 2-0 affair at Dolphins Soccer Park on Saturday.

CSI improves to 2-7 and 1-1 in the ECC, while STAC drops to 3-2-3 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play.

The teams struggled to find sight of goal through the first 40 minutes of action, with the lone effort on target coming from STAC's Kevon Evans in the 17th minute and the save being credited to Staten Island's Amari Thompson.

Staten Island would find the first goal of the game in the 41st minute, off of a miscue by Spartan keeper Tabor McDaniels, when a high-rising shot by Luis Ascencio Cueva would tip off of the hands of McDaniels and onto the foot of Brendan McGuire, who deposited the ball to the back of the net to make it 1-0 CSI.

After the halftime break, the host Dolphins continued its offensive push, picking up the first two shots of the new stanza. CSI doubled its lead in the 62nd minute, as a Daniel Angulo corner kick would find Nicholas Kishenko's head, followed by the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

St. Thomas Aquinas had a hard time finding any offense throughout the match, and especially in the second half, as the Spartans totaled three second half shots. The Dolphins tightened its defensive posture and held their guests off of the scoreboard to earn the clean sheet.
