Second Half Surge Propels Franklin Pierce Over STAC, 4-1

Rindge, N.H.  - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team dropped a non-conference road tilt to Franklin Pierce University, 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Sodexo Field in a battle of East Region powers.

The Spartans (1-1-0) were outshot by the Ravens (3-0-0), by a margin of 22-5, and edged in corners, 6-2. 

Franklin Pierce went into the half with a 1-0 advantage and used three second-half goals to pull away and secure the win. The Ravens Braudilio Rodrigues registered a hat trick in the match, while Kevon Evans scored the lone goal for STAC, his third of the season.

STAC Highlights and Game Notes

  • Joshua Heber (L, 1-1) got the start between the pipes for the Spartans and stopped three of six shots faced.
  • Tabor McDaniels made his collegiate appearance in net for STAC and allowed a late goal. 
  • Five Spartans (Banca, Evans, Sadorf, Umana & Allen) tallied a shot in the contest.

How It Happened

  • Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a Braudilio Rodrigues goal on a pass from Bernardo Prego to make it 1-0.
  • Rodrigues struck twice more in the second half, with a pair of unassisted goals in the 65th and 67th minutes of the match to increase the Ravens lead to 3-0.
  • Kevon Evans finally broke the shutout for St. Thomas Aquinas on a feed from Cole Allen to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 79th minute.
  • The final goal on the afternoon came courtesy of FPU's Francisco Javier Llamas in the 85th minute, with the helper going to Joao Valente to give the hosts the 4-1 victory.

Next Game

STAC opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, September 3, hosting Nyack College in a Noon tilt at Spartan Field in Sparkill. A kickoff tailgate will get the day started at 11:30 a.m. in the Spartan Field main parking lot.
