STAC Men's Soccer Opens 2022 Season with 7-0 Blanking at Saint Michael's

Colchester, VT - In its first match of the 2022 season, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team (1-0-0) came out firing, scoring three first half goals on its way to a 7-0 shutout road victory over Saint Michael's College (0-1-0) at Christopher M. Duffy Field.

STAC was quick to jump on the attack from the opening kick, working the ball deep into the Purple Knight's zone and pick up a goal in the first minute of the contest, as Anthony Bolivar Sanchez found Jorge Umana, who headed the ball to the back of the net, for the first of his four tallies on the afternoon.

In the 35th minute, Umana would once again strike, this time on an unassisted tally, splitting the Saint Michael's defense and putting the ball into the lower left corner of the net to make it 2-0 Spartans.

Kevon Evans closed the first half scoring in the 43rd minute, taking a through ball from teammate Jalen Moni wide left and going in alone on Purple Knight's keeper Liam Barrett to increase the maroon and gold lead to 3-0 at halftime.

After the break, St. Thomas Aquinas continued to put on the offensive pressure and they would find success again at the hands of Jorge Umana, who picked up his third goal of the match 10 minutes into the second stanza courtesy of quick passes by Juan Pablo Cedeno Varea and Anthony Bolivar Sanchez. Less than two minutes later, Umana notched his fourth of goal of the day with a blast into the upper right corner of the net to make it 5-0 STAC.

Even the Spartans keeper, Joshua Heber would lend a hand in the scoring, as a Heber pass over the Saint Michael's defense, allowed Kevon Evans to get open and put his second goal of the afternoon to the back of the net, increasing the lead to 6-0 with 26 minutes left to play.

STAC closed out their scoring barrage in the 82nd minute, as Yahir Hernandez took a pass from Kevon Evans and slid a shot into the lower right corner of the net to make it 7-0.

Joshua Heber (W, 1-0) made two stops on the afternoon for the Spartans.
