
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - Desperately needing a win and some help on the out-of-town scoreboard in order to qualify for the postseason, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in Westchester County.
STAC closes its season on an eight-match winless streak (0-7-1), falling to 6-8-3 overall and 1-4-3 in ECC play. Meanwhile Mercy improves 9-2-5 and 5-0-3, and will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.
Johannes Hanken Tjostheim tallied a pair of goals and Santiago Serrano added an insurance marker for the host Mavericks, as goalkeeper Eirik Elvestad (W, 8-2-4) turned away one of two shots faced to earn the win. Simon Steffensen also saw action in the final 28 minutes of the match, and with the game in hand. Steffensen stopped both shots that he saw for Mercy.
James Ray scored the lone goal for the Spartans, with the helper credited to teammate Kevon Evans. Keeper Johan Morales (2-7-3) made two stops on five shots for St. Thomas Aquinas.
