Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision At UDC

Washington, D.C. - A late second half goal by the University of the District of Columbia broke a 1-1 tie, and sent the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team to its fifth straight match without a win, as the host Firebirds slipped past the maroon and gold by a 2-1 margin on Wednesday afternoon in our nation's capital.

STAC slips to 6-5-3 overall and 1-2-3 within the ECC, while UDC improves to 4-7-2 and 2-4-0.

Ignacio Lopez tallied a pair goals for the Firebirds, as goalkeeper Giovanni Llamas (W, 3-1-1) turned away 10 of 11 shots faced to earn the win for the University of the District of Columbia.

Meanwhile, Mika Leue scored the lone goal for the Spartans. Keeper Johan Morales (2-4-3) made two stops on four shots for St. Thomas Aquinas.

How it Happened

35th Minute: A through ball up the sideline by Anthony Diaz to Axel Gamez was sent across the front of the net to the foot of teammate Ignacio Lopez for a shot to the middle of the net, beating keeper Johan Morales to give UDC the 1-0 lead.

61st Minute: STAC responded with a second half offensive rush, which allowed Elias Ait Bouali to send a ball into the box at the right post, finding the cleat of Mika Leue for the redirection goal past Giovanni Llamas to tie the match at 1-1.

79th Minute: On a trip upfield for the host Firebirds, Ignacio Lopez was low-bridged on a scoring attempt by a Spartans defender inside the box, forcing the referee to award a penalty kick. Lopez would be okay and fired a high, rising shot by a sprawled Morales to give UDC the 2-1 advantage.
