
Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Assumption University at Spartan Field in Rockland County.
STAC improves to 5-1-0 on the year, while Assumption slips to 3-2-1.
Kevon Evans led the Spartans scoring on the day, tallying a pair of goals to push his season total to ten in just six games. Teammates Sebastian Ortega and Elias Ait Bouali also scored for the maroon and gold in the non-conference match.
Johan Morales (W, 1-0-0) got the start between the sticks for St. Thomas Aquinas and turned aside all three shots that he faced in 90 minutes of action to pick up his first win of the campaign.
On the other end of the field, Iver Sjavag (L, 3-2-1) got the nod in net for the Greyhounds and made seven saves on 11 shots faced.
How it Happened
- Fifth Minute: A turnover by Assumption goalkeeper Iver Sjavag allowed Maziko Jiya to send a soft touch pass to Sebastian Ortega for the boot to the back of the onion bag, beating Sjavag to make it 1-0 Spartans.
- 29th Minute: A ball sent downfield by Nicolas Pavlou was corralled by Kevon Evans, who then beat a Greyhounds defender and fired a shot inside of the right post, past Iver Sjavag to double the STAC advantage at 2-0.
- 70th Minute: Francisco Degiorgi's corner kick attempt found the head of teammate Elias Bit Bouali at the left post, solving Sjavag to put the maroon and gold ahead 3-0.
- 77th Minute: On a late offensive rush, Kevon Evans was tripped up inside of the penalty area by an Assumption defender, drawing a penalty kick attempt from the referee. Evans' low shot found its way past a diving Iver Sjavag and to the back of the net to seal the scoring for STAC at 4-0.
