Spartans Blank Crosstown Rivals Dominican in Home Opener, 2-0

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team opened the home portion of their 2025 schedule on Sunday by blanking crosstown rivals Dominican University, 2-0 at Spartan Field.

STAC improves to 1-1-0 on the year while Dominican falls to 0-1-1.

The Spartans received second half scoring from Jerry Tagliavia and Mika Leue, while goalkeeper Dante Muntane (W, 1-1) got his second straight start for the maroon and gold and made four saves to earn his first collegiate victory and shutout.

For the visiting Chargers, keeper David Arteaga (L, 0-1-1) stopped 10 of 12 shots faced in a losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

56th Minute: A series of crisp passes by the Spartans led Christian Ferlisi to find Jerry Tagliavia for a shot that just got by a diving David Arteaga at the left post to make it 1-0 STAC.

89th Minute: In the final minute of play, a Kevon Evans shot ricocheted off of several Chargers players and right to the foot of teammate Mika Leue, who put it past a surprised Arteaga to double the lead Spartans advantage at 2-0.
