Rochester, N.Y. - Despite outshooting their opponents by a 19-4 margin, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team had its postseason run ended in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday evening, falling to Roberts Wesleyan University, 1-0 in double overtime, in the Semifinals of the East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament at Roberts Stadium in Western New York.
STAC closes its 2025 campaign with a 7-8-2 overall record and a 5-3 ECC mark. Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan moves on to the conference tournament final against Queens College next Saturday (November 15).
Moments before the teams looked to be headed to a penalty kick shootout to decide things, Archie Murphy tallied the game-winning goal for the Redhawks in extra time as an initial shot by teammate Iann Briones ricocheted off of the crossbar and to a waiting Murphy for the header past keeper Dante Muntane to the back of the onion bag. Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Eric Jewson (10-2-6) turned away all nine shots faced to earn his fifth solo clean sheet (sixth overall) of the season.
For the Spartans, keeper Dante Muntane (L, 6-6-2) made one stop on two shots in a valiant effort.
