Spartans Top Division I Rider, 5-2 in Men's Tennis

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – For the third time in the last two seasons, the St. Thomas Aquinas College men's tennis team defeated a Division I opponent, winning at Rider University 5-2.  Double-winners for the Spartans included Javier Munoz '17 (Sevilla, Spain), Aaron Stahl '18 (Dusseldorf, Germany), and James Bruce '19 (London, England).

Pairing up again this season at first doubles was the team of Munoz & Stahl, who defeated Chris Popso and Diego Delgado 8-1.  Andreu Ferragut '18 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) and Bruce teamed up to win at second doubles 8-4 against Jeremy van Hedwerde and Brandon Gildea.  The two wins were enough to secure the Division I rule best-of-three doubles point.  

Munoz won again at first singles, besting Popso 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.  Stahl defeated van Hedwerde in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 at third singles while Bruce won at fourth singles 6-3, 6-3.  Hugo Preussler '19 (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) rounded out the scoring at fifth singles 6-1, 6-3.
