SPARKILL, NY – The St. Thomas Aquinas College men’s tennis team split their conference opening weekend, giving them a 2-1 overall record this season.  

            On Saturday, the Spartans shut out Daemen College in a match that was tighter than the final score indicated.  After sweeping doubles action and securing the doubles point, STAC took wins at fifth, second, and first singles to clinch the win.  

            A visit to Queens College on Sunday would halt the Spartans’ modest win streak, as they would lose to the host Knights 6-1.  Lennart Lehmann would go a combined 3-1 on the weekend, as he would tally STAC’s only point at Queens with a three set win at second singles.

            The Spartans are next up as they host Atlantic Region foe Kutztown University on Tuesday in a double-header with the women.  First serve is set for noon, weather permitting.
