Men's Tennis Falls to ECC Powerhouse Queens, 5-2

SPARKILL, NY – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men’s Tennis team lost a hotly contested conference match to juggernaut Queens College on Friday by a 5-2 margin.  The Knights showcased their historically strong doubles play, winning at first and second doubles by 6-4 and 6-1 scores.

Heading into singles action, Alvaro Barranco ’21 (Lleida, Spain) and Enej Hasicevic ’20 ’21 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) showed glimpses of their vintage stuff before ultimately bowing out at third and fifth singles, respectively.  Lennart Lehmann ’24 (Dusseldorf, Germany) played his typical frustratin style and saw himself up a set and tied 3-all in the second before his opponent withdrew from the match.  Kas Roosch ’21 (Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) uncorked a few massive serves en route to a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win at second singles.  Ivan Laiz ’24 (La Orotova, Spain) bowed out at fourth singles 6-2, 6-3 to close out the day.

The loss puts the Spartans at 3-2 overall and 1-2 in East Coast Conference play.  They will host Queens again on Saturday at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.  First serve set to follow immediately after completion of the women’s match that starts at 10 AM.
