Ondrej Sramek & Seth Newman Sweep ECC Men's Tennis Weekly Awards

Ondrej Sramek has been named the ECC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Seth Newman scores Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday, following the Spartans matches against Fairleigh Dickinson University (L, 4-3) and Manhattanville College (W, 7-0) to open the 2024 Spring Season.

Sramek (Trebechovice pod Orebem, Czech Republic) won both his singles and doubles matches against the Knights, taking a 6-2 doubles victory at No. 1 (with Ludovico Truffelli) over Thomas Linley and Gryffin Minor before winning 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles against Asaf Schwartz. 

Meanwhile, Newman (Cambridge, England) Newman went 3-1 in his first two matches of the spring. The Spartans freshman took a 6-3 No. 3 doubles victory (with Henry Ronnberg) over Arjun Sriram and Tauras Mickus before dropping a 7-6 (2), 1-6, 6-4 No. 4 singles decision to Tauras Mickus against FDU. Against Manhattanville, Newman won both his doubles and singles bouts with the Valiants, winning 6-0 over Shiel Loganadan and Griffin Forberg at No. 2 doubles (with Henry Ronnberg) and defeated Weston Goodwin 6-0, 6-0 at No., 2 singles as St. Thomas Aquinas pitched a 7-0 shutout.

STAC (2-1, 0-0 ECC) hosts Jefferson University in battle between East Region Men's Tennis powers on Saturday, February 24 (6:45 p.m.) at Match Point Tennis Club in Orangeburg, N.Y.
