Seth Newman Takes Home ECC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week Kudos

Seth Newman has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week on Monday, following the Spartans 3-0 week with wins against Post University and Daemen University.

Newman (Cambridge, England) went 6-0 in singles and doubles in a 3-0 week for the Spartans. In doubles, Newman teamed up with Henry Ronnberg at the #3 and #2 positions to take down the Eagles' Josh Cronje and Tobias Strauss, 6-2, then the Wildcats' Lasse Mergens and Lucas Garcia, 6-2, and Lucas Garcia and Zachary Laplante, 6-0.

In singles action, the STAC freshman downed the Post's Niklas Langenfield, 6-4, 6-0 at #4 and Daemen's Lucas Garcia, 6-2, 6-0, and 8-3 at #2.

STAC (13-6, 4-2 ECC) begins its preparations for the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 at the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. The #2 seeded Spartans will take on #3 University of the District of Columbia in the semifinal round, with the winner facing off with the top seed and hosts Queens College for the ECC Championship the very next day.

However, as part of a new format agreement between the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the winners of each league will then do battle to decide who receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament. That match will take place on Saturday, May 4.
