Washington, D.C. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team wrapped up its regular season series with the University of the District of Columbia on Friday afteroon with a 5-2 victory over the Firebirds in our nation's capital.
STAC improves to 9-6 overall and even's its ECC record to 2-2 on the season, while UDC slips to 10-8 and 3-3.
The maroon and gold began the afternoon, taking all three doubles matches to earn the team point. No. 3 Henry Ronnberg & Seth Newman took down Juan Estevez Hernandez & Antonio Simo Durall, 6-1, before No. 2 Don Vinz Lominoque & Nathan Yacar dispatched Mauricio Corty & Oskar Karos, 6-4. The top duo of Ludovico Truffelli & Ondrej Sramek completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory over Louis Mangeon & Louka Queguiner.
The host Spartans then carried the momentum into singles action, as STAC picked up a pair of consecutive victories push the host Firebirds to the brink. First, Henry Ronnberg would win 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 over Mauricio Corty, followed by Seth Newman earning a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Oskar Karos at No. 4 to make it 3-0. UDC then broke the shutout, as Louis Mangeon beat Don Vinz Lominoque 6-1, 7-5 at No 1. STAC stopped the attempted UDC rally and closed out the team victory with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph by Lennart Lehmann over Juan Estevez Hernandez at No. 6. Once things were decided, the sides scored a victory apiece to end the match. No. 3 Ondrej Sramek took a three-set win over Antonio Simo Durall 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and No. 2 Louka Queguiner earned himself a three-set outcome over Ludovico Truffelli 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 1-0 (7).
Ondrej Sramek, Henry Ronnberg and Seth Newman each went 2-0 on the afternoon, scoring both doubles and singles wins over the Firebirds.
