Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team returned to the Riley Family Tennis Courts Monday afternoon, hosting Post University in a non-conference match on Senior Day. Once the pomp and circumstance of honoring this year's graduating class was concluded, the Spartans went out and posted a 7-0 shutout victory over the Eagles.
STAC improves to 11-6 on the year by winning its fourth straight match, while Post falls to 2-10.
Prior to the match, STAC honored Lennart Lehmann, Ivan Laiz and Ludovico Truffelli with on-court ceremonies, which included their teammates, coaches and college administrators.
The maroon and gold opened the day by taking two-of-three doubles matches to secure the first team point. The duo of Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg took a 6-2 victory at No. 3 over Josh Cronje & Tobias Strauss. However, Post would tie things up by winning at No. 1 with Gustavo Kerber & Donte Despontin besting Ondrej Sramek & Ludovico Truffelli, 6-2. The No. 2 pair of Nathan Yacar & Don Vinz Lominoque then took the deciding match over Anton Andersson & Niklas Langenfeld, 6-2.
When the sides turned their attention to singles action, the Spartans would make quick work of the Eagles, by taking all six bouts to win the match. No. 4 Seth Newman defeated Niklas Langenfield 6-4, 6-0, followed by No. 2 Ludovico Truffelli downing Anton Andersson 6-0, 6-3 to hold a commanding 3-0 advantage. No. 1 Don Vinz Lominoque's victory against Gustavo Kerber 6-2, 6-3 gave STAC its 11th victory in 17 tries. With the contest well in hand, No. 3 Ondrej Sramek beat Donte Despontin 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, No. 6 Alberto Espinosa Navarro won over Ivan Kolchanov 6-0, 6-2 and No. 5 Henry Ronnberg finished off the shutout with a 6-1, 7-6 (1) triumph over Josh Cronje.
