Men's Tennis Closes Spring Break Tour with 6-1 Loss to Texas-Tyler

Orlando, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team wrapped up its four-match spring break Sunshine State tour with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the University of Texas at Tyler on Friday.

STAC slips to 6-4 on the year, while UT-Tyler improves to 10-3.

Texas Tyler took two out of three matches in doubles play with No. 1 Daniil Felker & Egor Shestakov beating Ondrej Sramek & Ludovico Truffelli, 6-1 and the No. 2 team of Joaquin Bianchi & Carel Wessel defeating Don Vinz Lominoque & Nathan Yacar, 6-4. STAC staved off a clean sweep with a 6-4 victory by the No. 3 pair of Henry Ronnberg & Seth Newman over Mohamed Forkane Lebdi & Jordi Garcia Portell.

When the teams turned to singles action, the Patriots would once again flex their muscles over the Spartans, taking five of six matches to earn the team win. The lone maroon and gold triumph came via Seth Newman in a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) win over Mohamed Forkane Lebdi in the No. 4 slot.

THE ROCKHILL REPORT

"The Tyler men were just a little too good for us today", stated Head Coach Dan Rockhill. "We fought hard in most positions but they were more experienced and in better physical condition overall."

"Seth (Newman) and Henry (Ronnberg) played a good doubles match and are perhaps trusting the coaching they are receiving", said Rockhill. "These two guys also played great singles matches. It is exciting to see these guys mature and show that they are the future of the program."

"We have a lot of work to do when we get back home", remarked Rockhill. "I hope that the group is willing to do this work needed to be successful."
