
Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team ended a three-match losing streak on Wednesday afternoon, as the maroon and gold shutout Yeshiva University 5-0, in a rain-shortened affair at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
STAC claimed the doubles point via a sweep of all three matches. #3 Seth Newman and Miguel Angel Real Jimenez blanked Leo Rahmey and Joshua Deutsch, 6-0, followed by #1 Don Vinz Lominoque and Nathan Yacar shutting out David Cattan and Isaac Betesh, 6-0. #2 Alberto Espinosa Navarro and Ivan Laiz closed out pairs play with a 6-1 triumph over Jacob Pfeifer and Harry Radinsky.
When the teams transitioned to singles action, it was more of the same from the Spartans, who took four additional contests to secure the team victory. First #3 Alberto Espinosa Navarro took a straight sets victory over Leo Rahmey 6-0, 6-0. Then, #1 Seth Newman blanked David Cattan 6-0, 6-0, followed by #2 Henry Ronnberg besting Jacob Pfeifer, 6-1, 6-0 clinch the match. #4 Ivan Laiz (6-0, 6-1) over Israel Bussu would be the final bout of the afternoon, as the skies opened causing the last two matches #5 Nathan Yacar vs. Isaac Betesh and #6 Miguel Angel Real Jimenez vs. Harry Radinsky to be halted.
Alberto Espinosa Navarro, Ivan Laiz and Seth Newman all went 2-0 on the evening, winning both their doubles and singles matches.
