Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team picked up their fourth win in the last five matches with a 7-0 shutout of Vassar College on Wednesday afternoon at the Cretella Tennis Courts in Dutchess County.
STAC improves to 11-4 on the season, while Vassar slips to 5-7.
The Spartans opened the contest by sweeping all three doubles matches from the Brewers. No. 3 Erik Victor Tauson & Ondrej Sramek downed Pedro Cattaruzzi & Arnav Agostinho, 6-2, followed by No. 1 Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg beating Fernando Bauermeister & Eugene Lee, 6-3 and finally No. 2 Don Vinz Lominoque & Nathan Yacar besting Miles Sondergaard Jensen & Joseph Braun, 6-3 to take the first team point.
When the sides got to singles competition, it was more of the same for the maroon and gold, as they took care of business to keep the shutout intact. No. 1
Seth Newman picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fernando Bauermeister. Then, No. 2
Lorenzo Meschini defeated Eugene Lee 6-1, 6-2 to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 advantage. No. 4
Erik Victor Tauson next dispatched Joseph Braun 6-1, 6-2 to solidify the win for STAC. No. 3
Don Vinz Lominoque beat Arnav Agostinho 7-5, 6-3, No. 5
Ondrej Sramek bested James Balon 7-5, 6-4 and No. 6
Alberto Espinosa Navarro pushed past Joaquin Gil 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (4) to wrap up the day's events.
