
Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team picked up their third straight victory on Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 non-conference decision over Adelphi University at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
STAC improves to 14-5 overall, while Adelphi falls to 11-5.
The Spartans opened the day, taking two-of-three doubles matchups from the Panthers to gain the first team point, as No. 3 Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson defeated Louca Bertone & Andrea Albiero, 6-1 and No. 1 Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg bested Hugo Munoz Reinoso & Reece Farrow, 6-2. No. 2 Marco Jovanovic & Spyridon Papageorgiou avoided a maroon and gold sweep with a 7-5 win over Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda.
When the sides moved to singles, St. Thomas Aquinas went up 2-0 early on the strength of a 6-1, 6-4 victory via Erik Victor Tauson over Hugo Munoz Reinoso. However, Adelphi responded by picking up a win at No. 1, with Marko Jovanovic taking down Seth Newman 6-4, 6-4 to make it 2-1. No. 4 Don Vinz Lominoque then put the visitors on the ropes at 3-1 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph against Andrea Albiero. The Panthers had one last bit of fight in them, as No. 2 Louca Bertone beat Lorenzo Meschini 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8) to temporarily delay the inevitable. A 7-6 (2), 6-2 win by Henry Ronnberg against Reece Farrow was all that was needed to seal the deal for the Spartans and gave them victory number fourteen on the year. No. 5 Ondrej Sramek closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (6) decision over Spyridon Papageorgiou.
