Win Streak Hits Three as STAC Men's Tennis Beats Adelphi, 5-2

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team picked up their third straight victory on Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 non-conference decision over Adelphi University at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.

STAC improves to 14-5 overall, while Adelphi falls to 11-5.

The Spartans opened the day, taking two-of-three doubles matchups from the Panthers to gain the first team point, as No. 3 Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson defeated Louca Bertone & Andrea Albiero, 6-1 and No. 1 Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg bested Hugo Munoz Reinoso & Reece Farrow, 6-2. No. 2 Marco Jovanovic & Spyridon Papageorgiou avoided a maroon and gold sweep with a 7-5 win over Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda.

When the sides moved to singles, St. Thomas Aquinas went up 2-0 early on the strength of a 6-1, 6-4 victory via Erik Victor Tauson over Hugo Munoz Reinoso. However, Adelphi responded by picking up a win at No. 1, with Marko Jovanovic taking down Seth Newman 6-4, 6-4 to make it 2-1. No. 4 Don Vinz Lominoque then put the visitors on the ropes at 3-1 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph against Andrea Albiero. The Panthers had one last bit of fight in them, as No. 2 Louca Bertone beat Lorenzo Meschini 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8) to temporarily delay the inevitable. A 7-6 (2), 6-2 win by Henry Ronnberg against Reece Farrow was all that was needed to seal the deal for the Spartans and gave them victory number fourteen on the year. No. 5 Ondrej Sramek closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (6) decision over Spyridon Papageorgiou.

THE ROCKHILL REPORT

"Adelphi is really strong, so this is a good win for us," commented Head Coach Dan Rockhill. "Our doubles is getting better and better. Hopefully, we can get all three pairs playing well for every match going forward. Victor, our MIP, was tremendous today. He was dictating play and playing with confidence. Getting that first singles point on the board quickly is always a huge lift for the team."

"We expect another big challenge from UDC on Saturday," said Rockhill. These tough matches should benefit our cause going forward."
