
Queens, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon for an indoor, neutral site match against Assumption University at the Queens College Tennis Bubble. After sweeping doubles play to gain their first point of the day, STAC then won five out of six singles bouts to roll to a 6-1 win over the Greyhounds.
STAC takes its third stright match and improves to 5-1 on the year, while Assumption slips to the .500 mark at 5-5.
St. Thomas Aquinas began the afternoon by taking all three doubles matches, as Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson took a 6-2 victory over Bernardo Balancho & Alec Pijnacker at No. 3 to set the tone. Then the team of Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg would clinch the all important point for the maroon and gold with a 6-4 triumph over Herman Aguirre & Luigi Bassani at the No. 1 position. Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda would keep the sweep intact with a 6-4 win against Hugo Petersson & Jakob Bordt in the No. 2 spot.
Already up 1-0, the Spartans would settle the match with five straight victories, as No. 5 Henry Ronnberg bested Bernardo Blancho 6-2, 6-0, No. 4 Ondrej Sramek defeated Alec Pijnacker 6-1, 6-4 and No. 3 Erik Victor Tauson downed Hugo Petersson, 6-3, 6-3 to earn the team win. No. 1 Seth Newman beat Herman Aguirre 7-5, 6-0, and No. 2 Don Vinz Lominoque won his match with Luigi Bassani 6-4, 6-2. The only Spartans blemish came at the No. 6 spot where Assumption's Jakob Bordt was victorious over Alberto Espinosa Navarro 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9).
