Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Jefferson University 4-3 at the Riley Family Tennis Courts in Rockland County.
STAC moves to 2-0 on the year, while Jefferson falls to 0-3.
St. Thomas Aquinas began the afternoon by taking two out of three doubles matches, as Henry Ronnberg & Theo Renoux took victory over Elliot Jarosz & Matt Cizmarik at No. 2 to set the tempo. Then team of Ondrej Sramek & Erik Victor Tauson would clinch the all important point for the maroon and gold with a triumph over Antonio Mateos Melenchon & Quentin Duvinage at the No. 3 position. The Rams pair of Nicholas Trebuchet & Jules Thibault avoided the clean sweep by besting Don Vinz Lominoque & Nagamitsu Kuroda at No. 1.
Up 1-0, the Spartans would see Jefferson tie the score and take the lead with No. 1 Nicholas Trebuchet defeating Lorenzo Meschini and No. 3 Jules Thibault winning against Don Vinz Lominoque. However, STAC would tie things back up at 2-2 on the strength of an Erik Victor Tauson victory over Johary Rabetrano at No. 4. Antonio Mateos Melenchon then bested Theo Renoux at No. 2 to put the maroon and gold on the ropes, but consecutive triumphs by Ondrej Sramek over Quentin Duvinage at No. 5 and Henry Ronnberg's match-clinching win over Filip Slavkovic at No. 6 sealed things in favor of St. Thomas Aquinas.
